Reflection & Throwback Tuesday - 2013 Year End Special

Enjoyable Recollection

The 31st of December is the oldest and last day of the year. Many of us are busy preparing to send-off the year 2013 and say hello to new year 2014.

I believe that today is the best time to look back and reminisce the past 1 year because this will help us evaluate our accomplishment and failures. Consequently, this is the best time to give thanks to our Heavenly Father. This year, I achieve several milestones although it wasn't easy because I was like in a roller coaster ride but I am very pleased with the outcome of my few projects. I am very thankful because I received so many blessings.

Getting sufficient exercise regularly is also my of my goals this year and it balances my lifestyle. Indeed, I was also able to participate with different running events here in Singapore like;
01 Go Green
02 NTUC Run
03 JP Morgan
04 Sundown Marathon
05 Pocari Sweat
06 Passion Fun Run
07 Against Cancer
08 Adidas King of the Road
09  Love Your Heart Run
10 Run in the Park
I was able to visit several places in Malaysia with my new friends. I also visited my parents, old friends and relatives in the Philippines

At the end of my journey for this year, let me share with you my Top 13 OST.

According to anonymous writer, happiness can only be achieved if there is a balance between the physical, the mental, the spiritual and the social/emotional.

I would like to thank God for giving me blessings and I would like to give thanks to those who supported me in my endeavour.

Loy Krathong 2013 - Singapore

Loy Krathong which means "floating crown" is an annual festival which is being celebrated in Thailand, Laos and other part of Burma. The event is  always celebrated during the full moon of the 12th month of Thai calendar. This is an ancient ritual paying respect to the water and to give thank for the life it brings to the people.

Last night it was also celebrated in Singapore which was organised by Thai Association Singapore. It was held in Tawandang Microbrewery, Dempsey Hill. I was invited to attend this cultural event by a Thai friend, Wachiraporn. She participated in a beauty pageant called "Nang Noppamas".

During, the entire show I witnessed the richness of Thai culture.

Huay Kwang Thai Kitchen Moo Ka Ta

Last night me and my new friends went to Huay Kwang Thai Kitchen Moo Ka Ta in Singapore. I personally enjoyed this place because of they offer sumptuous food.

Mookata originated from Chiang Mai, Thailand. This is a hotplate on the table and you can make barbeque on it. The charcoal fire is hidden beneath a dome shaped grill metal plate and it has slits in it for better grilling of the meat. Meanwhile, the metal plate curves down then rises up to form a metal moat, in which a plain soup base is poured.

This place serves with a set of raw ingredients comprising staples of meat, assorted vegetables, prawns, squid, pigeon and chicken eggs and a helping of vermicelli. Rice can also be served together with your meal. The also have the best chilli to be eaten with the grilled food.

Wake Me Up When September Ends!

Today is the last day of September and it means that the 3rd quarter of year 2013 is over. It is time again to evaluate what has been done and what needs to be done to achieve goal. As far as I can remember, this quarter is the most challenging time for me because I need to pause, step back and look again at all my options. Consequently, I need to contemplate with my choices because of unforeseen circumstances. I am not dismayed that this quarter didn’t give me much achievements and I can also say that it is not as vibrant compare from the last quarter. I don’t consider that this is a failure but I think, this time around is just a breakeven part of my life.

What was done to improve myself?

ü I donated my hair to cancer survivor on July 6 because I thought I would be better to use my hair to make a wig rather than throwing it into trash. Out of 4 running events, 3 were successful run and these were Race Against Cancer, NESTLÉ - Love Your Heart Run 2013 & The Strait Times - Run in the Park.

ü I visited some cultural event in my nearby area.

ü I also started to practice my swimming & biking skills in preparation of my future goal.

ü My buying power is in full swing to accumulate as many gifts as I can purchase so that I can send it to my parents for Christmas.

One step backward

ç Adidas King of the Road; one of my running event was cancelled by the organisers because of the bad weather condition.

ç My paternal grandmother passed away prematurely because of the devastating stress she got from her daughter-in-law. I was trying to convince myself not derive to any conclusion about the cause of her demise but based on the stories I heard, the causes of the death were unacceptable. Had she not been emotionally stressed by her daughter-in-law, she would have been still alive.

ç I cancelled my trip to Indonesia because my grandmother’s wake overlapped with my travel plan. Although, I didn’t return to the Philippines, I thought it would be better not to travel in respect with my feelings and personal loss.

As my simple life goes on, I promise to move beyond my horizon and I will do it right. I will show that I can do it better. I will roar like a tiger in the next quarter!!!

Start Riding a Bicycle

This month of September, I didn't join any running event because I would like to try something I also love which is bicycling. I thought I would be nice to have another diversion so that I could forget my workload in the office.

This afternoon my good friend invited me to roam around in our area. We decided to bike at Punggol Park. We spent three hours to complete 21 kilometres because we didn't care about the timing. We enjoyed the nature.

We will do it again next time!

The Strait Times - Run in the Park

This morning I participated in the  running event that was hosted by The Strait Times. This was the first time they organised this kind of event  and more than twelve thousand runners joined to support their project. I enjoyed the scenic view of Punggol Waterway while I was running. Although the some routes have narrow track, I didn't mind it because I was very careful and patient when I ran to make sure that I was safe and sound.

The park has mangrove plants with more than 20 species which are planted along the waterway of Punggol-Serangoon Reservoir. While along the track of the park there are lemon grass, various flowering plants, fruit bearing trees, pine trees and other tropical trees.

Lavender Farm @ Genting Highland

According to Encyclopaedia Britannica, lavender is any plant of the genus Lavandula that comprises about thirty species of the mint family Lamiaceae, native to countries bordering on the Mediterranean. The English lavender (angustifolia or officinalis) is cultivated widely for its essential oil and for its narrow fragrant leaves and spikes of purple flowers that are dried and used in sachets. Meanwhile, the French lavender (stoechas) and (lanata) native to Spain, are also widely cultivated. The ancient Romans used lavender in their baths, and the dried flowers have long been used to scent chests and closets.

Lavender symbolizes peace, purity and tranquility. The name of this flower comes from the Latin word lavare, which means to wash. During the Roman empire, this flower is often used in both laundry and bath waters.

This flower is a national flower of Portugal.

There are always flowers for those who want to see them.
Henri Matisse

Water Lily @ Marina Bay Sands

I love flower because it relaxes me especially water lily. This plant is Nymphaeaceae family with fifty-eight species in six genera of freshwater plants native to the temperate and tropical parts of the world according to Encyclopaedia Britannica.

Water Lily is a national flower of various countries like Bangladesh, Egypt, Guyana and Sri Lanka.

Eat Out @ Mookata

Last night my Thai and Malaysian friend invited me to eat out in Mookata, a Thai food stall at Tiong Bahru. I enjoyed the food because it was very delicious and juicy. Moreover, the tasty sauce added to its savour. The food that I ate last night fixed my mood and balanced my ill feeling towards unfortunate circumstances happened to me lately. It made me happy.

Mookata offers an exciting options ranging from seafood, meat to vegetable. The ingredients are fresh. Aside from good food that they offer the store owner is helpful and friendly.

It's easy to impress me. I don't need a fancy party to be happy.
Just good friends, good food, and good laughs.
I'm happy. I'm satisfied. I'm content.

This morning I visited one of the zoological parks in Singapore to have a glimpse of rare species which were exhibited there. The animals roamed freely in open and natural habitats. These endangered animals were taken from various places of the world.

Cancelled - Singapore Adidas King of the Road 2013

The Adidas King of the Road 2013 finally came but it was cancelled because of the bad weather. I was disappointed because I thought that my preparation for several weeks could be wasted. Moreover, I woke up very early to go the venue this morning. Although, I was upset with the outcome of this event, I felt more sorry to those foreigner who came here just to participate. This morning also, I met a Thai and a Hong Konger who were more annoyed than me with the result of going here. They spent a lot of time to practice, effort and money to join in the event. Well, everything does happen for a reason whether it is good or bad.

According to their latest press release "The event had to be cancelled because of unforeseen weather conditions they wouldnt like to compromise their participants' safety."

Time To Eat Ice Cream!

I don't usually eat ice cream because I think that it will add me more weight. I don't deprive myself eating it. However, this afternoon I ate ice cream because I wanted to satisfy my craving. I did not check the calories. I did not care whether it was healthy or not. I didn't count the calories if it was on my intake range!  I only wanted to love myself.

Pigged Out at Xian De Lai

Last night my colleagues and I had been to Xian De Lai and we had steamboat. We chose the buffet because it would give us more choices to eat. We thought that buffet would be a value for money.

In Xian De Lai restaurant, the hot pot comes in individual pot and this means that every person could choose a soup base of their choice. So, I chose their Tom yum soup base because I would like to experience mixing Thai base soup with Chinese food.

The choices for the steamboat were fresh vegetables, mushrooms and homemade noodles. They also have several meat fillet like beef, pork chicken and lamb. They also had a list of cooked food which were delicious too like crispy fry potato, bacon balls, prawns, meat noodles.

Xian De Lai is a shanghai style steamboat buffet that offers several types of soup base like duck soup,  sichuan spicy, tonkotsu soup, tom yum and bak kut teh. It also serves handmade cooked food, grilled fish and more!

Spice is Nice

This afternoon my friend and I visited the exhibit of Spices which was presented by Plaza Singapura Mall. It featured different kinds of spices throughout Asia.
The spices from China and India were very popular during the Middle Ages in Europe. The trade of spice was controlled by Arab traders through Silk Road which they brought in Venice Italy and by the time that those spices reached there, they were very expensive. In this context, the Europeans wanted to capture the lucrative business of spices. Portugal & Spain led the exploration however as times went by, they were taken over by the Dutch and the British in gaining the foothold of trading the spices.

The annual "Great Singapore Sale" is now on! This event attracts more tourist in this city-state. Of course, before this event super sale concludes this coming July 31, I won't allow myself to be left behind. I think this is the best time to spend my rewards which I got last month.

This afternoon I went to Suntec mall to purchase another shoes which I added to my collection. I also purchase two vouchers for my next travel plan.

Vigan, Ilocos Sur

¡Pues, vamos a viajar amigo!

What A Great Hair Day!!!

This morning my new friends and I participated in a charity work that was called "Hair for Hope" of Children's Cancer Foundation. This was a signature fundraising event. We shaved our head to raise funds and awareness of childhood cancer. It was fun to join with this kind of event because were happy that our hair would be useful to someone else. We thought that if we would to go salon and had a haircut, it would be a waste of hair. Thus, we felt greatness that we were important to others after we donated our hair.

After the event, Chris invited us to have barbeque party in his place at Oasis, Pasir Ris. We had lots of fun because we talked as much as we would like have. We swam and ate lots of food.

It was a Great Hair Day! Personally, I was able to fulfil again my mission of helping other life in a little way. I was very thankful to our Beloved Divine Creator because he gave me more strength to do good deeds to others. Thus, I was also receiving more blessings from him

Thank you Bee, Chris, Ethan, Zam, Lawrence, JK, Mike, Ricky and Cameroon for joining with me in donating the hair.

Reminiscing the Gold - Q2 YR2013

I had a very vibrant last quarter and I felt very blessed because I was able to achieve my goals. Moreover, I believed that I had a balance and good life. I also joined in several running events like JP Morgan Corporate Challenge Run, Sundown Marathon & Pocari Sweat Run 2013.

With regards to my financial matter, I tried to balance my spending without suppressing my desire to buy the things that would satisfy the so-called “Retail therapy”

I participated in some social activities and then I visited my family and relatives in the Philippines.

I can say that I had a blast during the 2nd quarter of 2013!

This coming 3rd quarter, I will run farther, save more money, travel more places, meet people, know better the different culture around me, and give more intangible support to the needy.
